CWDS Aims

We aim to promote awareness of dyspraxia by visiting schools, colleges and places of work in order to make staff and employers aware of the condition, the problems it can cause and ways in which they can help.

The aims of our meetings are divided into the following groups:

Children with Dyspraxia

  • To promote social interaction, boost confidence and self-esteem through the activities provided.  Each session consists of three main activities.

  • P.H.S.E to promote confidence and social interaction.

  • Craft activities to aid fine motor skills and encourage independent choice.

  • Team games to improve balance, co-ordination, spatial awareness, listening skills and following instructions.

  • Meeting are held in a safe, non-threatening environment.  Day trips and holidays will be arranged throughout the year for children and their families.

Adults with Dyspraxia

Our aims for adults are:

  • To prevent isolation by providing the opportunity to meet others.

  • Give advice on assessment and treatment.

  • Assist with employment seeking and training.

  • Help to fill in job applications and legal forms.

  • Accompany to interviews on request.

  • Advise on benefit entitlement and assist with applications.

  • To make referrals to relevant outside agencies.

Parents and Carers

Many parents/carers can become confused, frustrated and worried when a child, family member or friend is diagnosed with dyspraxia.  We intend to ease the strain and worry by:

  • Providing the opportunity to meet up with and make friends with other parents/carers.

  • Giving advice on assessment and the statementing process.

  • Referring to relevant outside agencies with consent.

  • Assisting in the filling in of any forms.

  • Helping to assess the needs of the sufferer and giving advice on any specialist equipment and how to acquire it.

  • Aid transition from primary – secondary – employment.

We have many more items of  helpful information and training courses that you may well find of use.

We would appreciate it if you could spare a few minutes of your time to assist us by completing our survey as we are undertaking a NHS assessment needs analysis for specific learning difficulties, just follow the link to participate.
